Phillips Manufacturing, an industry leader founded in 1955, manufactures drywall bead and trim accessories as well as lath and stucco products. Headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, Phillips Manufacturing has production facilities and regional offices around the country.
The purchasing department had been frustrated with the company’s existing back-and-forth process of finding steel raw materials. It was inefficient and cumbersome. When the company discovered Felux, they were quickly sold on its value and has since successfully streamlined its steel purchasing process.
Historically, Phillips Manufacturing has procured its steel raw materials through a series of back-and-forth emails and sifting through pages of product from different suppliers. Unfortunately, this is the status quo in the industry and presents significant limitations for companies trying to find the right product to purchase at the right time.
“I don’t want to look at pages and pages of materials, including duplicate lists from four different suppliers,” said Keith Norton, purchasing coordinator for Phillips Manufacturing. “I just want to see what I can use right now, just the things that affect my world. Felux allows me to do that.”
After learning about Felux at an industry conference, Norton jumped at the chance to try the digital marketplace for steel. Felux provided Phillips Manufacturing with the ability to easily sort, filter and find product on a real-time, digital platform, which provides access to both primary and secondary steel markets.
“We typically purchase 70% of our steel from primary markets, but up to 30% comes from secondary markets, so locating materials from those secondary markets is an important part of our day-to-day processes,” Norton explained.
In addition to streamlining its cumbersome steel purchasing process, joining the Felux marketplace brought some unexpected benefits. “By having access and visibility into the Felux marketplace, our company has actually found some new customers as well.
